Addis Ababa, International Monetary Fund (IMF), Chief Ms. Christine Lagarde began her Ethiopia visit on Wednesday13 to 16 December 2017. The visit is part of Lagarde Africa tour that started in Benin.

Lagarde is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, to discuss the continuation of a programme with the IMF.

She will also speak on the impact of technology in ensuring inclusive growth in Africa, at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on Friday morning.

Lagarde will also deliver speeches at the ECA and African Union (AU) as well as visit the Eastern Industry Zone in Dukem and Hamlin Fistula hospitals in Ethiopia.


During the past 72 years, from 1996 to 2010 in particular, Ethiopia obtained special credit and technical support from the organization, including external debt burden reduction and cancellation, the statement added.

Ethiopia registered rapid economic growth during the past 15 years, making the country one of the fastest economies in the world, as well as managed to reduce poverty to 23 percent from 56 percent, between 1992 and 2007.
