Engineer Aisha Mohammed has been elected Chairperson of the Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP).

Aisha, former construction minister, is now serving as defence minister – the first woman to hold that position in the country – at the federal level.

She replaced Haji Seyoum Awel, who was removed from his Chairperson of the Party and Chief Administrator of the regional state position, by ANDP on Thursday.

On the same day at least 72 senior officials of the Party, one of the five satellite parties of the ruling EPRDF, retired with dignity.

Apart from electing Aisha, the rules afar regional state also chose AwelArba as its Deputy Chairperson and formed its new Executive Committee.

In addition to Aisha and Awel, Ibrahim Umed, Ahmed Sultan, MrsZeharaUmed, Mohammed Hassen, Mohammed Teyiba, Taha Ahmed, Ali Hussen, ElamaAbubeker, HussenUmer made it to the list. (Daily Monitor)
