Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi will pay an official visit to Ethiopia and the African Union in Addis Abeba starting from Tuesday, its foreign ministry announced on Friday.
The visit is part of his Africa tour, which involves three other countries such as Burkina Faso, Gambia and Senegal, that runs from Jan. 2 to 6, 2019.
The report said Wang is visiting at the invitation of Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu as well as foreign ministries of the other three countries.
Chinese foreign minister has chosen Africa for the first overseas visit each year over the years, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a press briefing in Beijing.
Wang’s visit is “a continuation of this fine tradition, which speaks volume for the great importance China has always attached to China-Africa relations”, the spokesperson said. (Daily Monitor)
