President Sahlework Zewde assigned former Chief of staff to the Prime minister office, Fitsum Arega, to be Ambassador of Ethiopia on Monday.

The office of the president did not disclosed where Fitsum, who is now serving as head of country’s investment commission, will be assigned.

But reports say he may be heading to Washington DC to serve as Ethiopian ambassador to the United States.

After the appointment, Fitsum said he was “humbled to be nominated as an Ambassador”. “There’s nothing more satisfying than serving my country,” he said. “I now look forward to serving the people of Ethiopia in economic diplomacy and beyond to the best of my abilities.”

In addition to Fitsum, the president office announced the appointment Chairperson of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission Dr AddisuGebre-Egziabher and 18 more others as ambassador plenipotentiaries who will represent Ethiopia overseas.

The list includes former president of Ethiopian chamber MrsMulu Solomon, former finance minister Abdulaziz Mohammed and spokesperson person of foreign ministry Meles Alem.

The others are Zenebe Kebede, Ambassador SuliemanDedefo, MrsMulu Solomon, MrsNasiseChali, HassenTaju, RetaAlemu, Henok Tefera, MrsAlemtsehayMeseret, Dr TizitaMulugeta, Ambassador TesfayeYilma, Ambassador Teshome Toga, Teferi Tadesse, Million Samuel, Berhanu Fiseha, Dr AiroratMohammedand as well as Ambassador SamiaZekaria.
