Deputy Head of Tigray region said his region has made enough preparations to peacefully host football matches between the Tigray and Amhara regional states’ football clubs.

Last year, football clubs from both regional states played their matches at neutral venue due to aggressive behavior of fans.

The decision came, state affiliated FBC reported, following discussion between the Ethiopian Football Federations (EFF) and administrators of the two regional states.

The discussion ended with an agreement to host the matches in both regions, said Debretsion Gebremichael, Deputy Chief Administrator of Tigray regional state.

He said Tigray regional state has made “enough preparations” to host the matches peacefully.

“We should not mix politics and sports,” Dr Debretsion urged the fans of the two clubs. “Sport should be governed by its own rules and regulations.”

He also urged some forces to refrain from using sports to achieve political gains.

He finally called on security officials, sport leadership, youth, and sport fans to contribute their share for the matches to take place as per the time table. (Daily monitor)
