Two ministries agreed to use drone technology for exploration of natural resources as well as surveilling fuel pipeline, which will be constructed in the near future.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MoIT) and Ministry of Mines and Energy (MoME) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday.

Ministry of technology said it will supply drones, which will be used for exploration, and analyze the information gathered by them for ministry of mines.

The information gathered by the drones will be analyzed at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology’s data center by using High Performance Competing (HPC) system, it was noted.

The deal also includes using drones to monitor and protect the 800-kilomater fuel pipeline which will be built between Ethiopia and Djibouti.

MoME and Chinese POLY-GCL already signed an agreement in January for the installation of a natural gas pipeline from Ogaden region to neighboring Djibouti. Its construction is expected to complete by 2020.
